12:35 - An Experiment in Boredom

Here’s the sitch. Nearly a month ago the contract faculty at my university went on strike. Since then my friends and I have had –nothing- to do. With our motivational deadlines completely vaporized not one of us has even cracked a book. Our brains are emptying, and our mostly drunken lifestyle since Nov 6 is only speeding the drainage.

Out of sheer boredom four of my friends and I have sequestered ourselves in the student centre of York University, until further notice. We’ve already explored every other possibility of entertainment in the past weeks, and have let our competitive spirits take over in a bid to fill our time.

Today, December 1st, 2008 at precisely noon the five of us walked into the student centre with one goal: stay as long as possible. The last one to set foot outside wins. Wins, well, nothing actually. That’s how seriously crippling our lack of stimulus has become: we’ve simply retreated into sitting around doing nothing as something to do.

The cast of characters includes myself; Nick, a film student from Windsor; Kate, a professional writing major from Moose Factory; Aleks, an education student from Gdansk; and Rachael, a kin student from Oshawa. Our friend Flynn has stopped by to lift our spirits and make fun of us.

So by now we’ve been here for an hour. No serious sanity issues yet. Stay tuned.
